Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots: Pretty in Polka

Quick swatch post!  I spotted the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dot display at my Target last week, and of course couldn’t leave without one.  I’ve been *trying* to be better about not buying ALL THE THINGS, so I limited myself to just 1.  Being an indie nut, I already have a few great black and white toppers- so I grabbed the pink color, Pretty in Polka.  If you don’t already have a black and white glitter topper, I think Maybelline’s version looks to be a pretty good one (only hexes in different sizes, no bar glitter) and best of all, it’s cheap!

I initially thought this polish would be really sheer and need a lot of coats, but it didn’t- these pictures show just 2 coats with no topcoat.  I didn’t have to do too much in the way of glitter placement, but I did do a bit of dabbing for the occasional empty spot.

Application was pretty good- like I said, it built up very well, and the glitter went on smoothly and without any issue.  There’s a lot of glitter payoff with minimal effort- no fishing required.   Very pretty!  I also thought the teal color was very beautiful- I may break my rule and go back for it 🙂

Maybelline Color Show Polka Dot polishes can be found at various drug stores in a display (Walgreens, CVS, Target) though as always not all stores will have them.  You can also buy them online now at Target.com for $2.99 each!

Try It On Tuesday: Whimsical Ideas By Pam Seuss

Time for another Try It On Tuesday!

So this is just going to BARELY make it in time for Tuesday, but I’m happy I was able to get it done!  Not to get into too many personal details, but my mother in law had major surgery today so most of the day was spent at the hospital.  Everything went well though!

I had trouble deciding what polish to feature tomorrow, so I picked the one I had never worn before to feature today.

Whimsical Ideas by Pam can be found here on Facebook.  To order any polishes from her, you send her an email with what you would like and she invoices you when she reaches your order.   I believe mine took me 2 weeks to arrive from the time I sent in my email- not really a terrible turn around.

Seuss is a polish I had wanted very badly from Pam, so this was 1 of the 2 I bought from her.  Though it’s not intentionally patriotic, it is still a good pick for a mani on any American holiday!

Here’s Seuss, 2 coats:

This is on my right hand- aka my dominant hand.  My nails aren’t as well cared for over on this side, my fingers are thicker and my nails are shorter.  Big thanks to my hubby for taking these pictures- I couldn’t get out the tripod and I have issues taking pictures of this hand.

I did have some issues with this polish.  The glitter didn’t like to cooperate… so I had to do a bit of dabbing.  If I didn’t, all the glitter ended up bunched at the end of the nail from my brush strokes.

This was my second attempt with Seuss tonight- the first attempt was horrible.  I was trying to get too much glitter on each nail, which resulted in glooping and just a horrible mess.  The second time around, I just put on thin coats and tried to not pay attention to the location of the glitter.

Sorry for the late post!  I’m already editing photos for tomorrow’s post, so I promise that one will NOT be up 15 minutes before midnight 🙂

(Just Another) Mani Monday: Oreo Nails with Lush Lacquer Salt N’ Peppa

Hey ya’ll!  Let me just say, I’ve been reading the comments as they come in for the giveaway post, and it’s been so much fun!  And really depressing, because I would seriously like to give everyone a bottle.  We’ve already gone over what I had originally planned for giveaway #2 and it’s only the second day of the first giveaway- so I think I’ll just play that one by ear!

So I’m not sure what has taken me so long today to get things moving with this post… I made the mistake of not doing my nails last night, and then I just kept putting it off to do things around the house, clean, etc.  Time REALLY flits away too quickly!

Onto the polish…

Since I’d already been too lazy to start last night, I knew today would have to be something fun but fairly straightforward- no attempting my first ever water marble today!  I’ve had this Oreo Jelly Sandwich mani from Sarah at Chalkboard Nails pinned on Pinterest for a few weeks now, and I decided that would be fun to do.  I just LOVE the way it looks!

(SQUIRREL!:  If you need an invite to Pinterest, just send me an email and I’ll invite you!  If you sign up manually you may have to wait awhile.  If you have a nail board, please leave a link in the comments for me to follow!  I also have a personal account, so I only follow nail boards on the blog one.)

So this is a borderline Mani Monday FAIL.

I used Essie Marshmallow and Lush Lacquer’s Salt N’ Peppa- 2 coats of each, alternating.

First, while I LOVE Salt N’ Peppa, it didn’t lend itself well to this look.  It would probably look amazing on longer nails, but with my tiny nubs (one chipped again the other day, so back down to the quick) it just didn’t look that great.  I think if I get my hands on Samurai Princess, like Chalkboard Nails used, it would look better- or if I had used Valentino from Pretty & Polished.

I just couldn’t achieve much of a jelly effect- the top glitter coat completely covered any of the under coat.

Plus, since my nails are so short, 4 coats of polish made me look like I was wearing nub-acrylics.  And even with top coat, it wouldn’t dry.  I took the photos, and then removed it.

Long story short- I still LOVE this look, but just couldn’t pull it off for this post.  I’m going to try it again with another glitter and maybe update again.

But hey, the pictures still look pretty!  So here they are 🙂

Ok, so I guess you CAN see some of the jelly effect.  Its very, very subtle though.

I found it serendipitous that we had Oreos in the house… normally my husband inhales them within 24 hours of purchase.

I think my only major complaint is that it looks like I basically added a topcoat over white- the jelly effect is lost.  I will try again!

Nubbin acrylics, lol.

I need to try out more jelly sandwiches- can you believe this was my very first ever!  It’s such a beautiful effect (when you can tell…) 🙂

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!  Just check out yesterday’s post for more details!
